I saw an episode of NUMBERS (Friday nites at 9pm) once that dealt with a family tree and family ties such as this mess Texas is wading through.  One poor girl had escaped and the cult wanted her back because she had like the only pure genes left, everyone else was related.  Scary.  But gets you to thinking that if everyone is marrying and having kids with relatives, maybe they really cant think for themselves, there are laws on incest for a reason.  Glad this isn’t happening in AZ since it seems we might of chased Jeffries to Texas.

What intrigues me the most about all of this is that our society has declared that a marriage can exist between only two people. But really, who’s to say? Our kids are being taught to value diversity, and if this isn’t diverse as all get out, I don’t know what is! I’m absolutly not saying that I approve of plural wives and making young children have sex and bear children and then have my tax dollars support and educate these children, but in the argument for diversity, who am I to disapprove?

I sorta agree Barkat, but seriously a 60 year old fart, having sex with a 13 year old.  Not even old enough to make her own mind up.....forced under some sadistic church law, created by a MAN!!!  Diversity or not, there are limits.  This is wrong, period.  Most 18 year olds don’t have enough common sense to make a serious decision to marry and have children.  I have a 12 year old and she can’t decide what top to wear the next day.  I agree with your point about mulitiple marriages, but lets have it with adults, not children.  And the interbreeding......according to one report over 45% of all children within these cults are still borns, miscarriages and mentally challenged.  Where the heck are the ‘Right to Life’ or ‘Abortion Now’ groups.....they sure can b---h about a rape victim wanting an abortion (whole different topic) but they can’t help a 13yr old? 

And don’t even get me started on my tax dollars paying for this garbage!!!!!!!!

I don’t think this situation in Texas is right at all.  Let me start off with that.

I don’t want to be too quick to judge however, because we maybe don’t know the whole story.  I hope it’s like a ‘Law and Order’ episode, where at the beginning it looks like one thing and then there’s always that twist!

Good try Phx Husker, I think what we see is what it is.  And good point Gigi, if they want multiple wives have a minimum age limit and if you have multiples you should be able to afford it and when you have more then one wife you no longer qualify for state or federal aid since it was a conscious choice to enlarge your “family”!  Unfortunately we all end up supporting the 15 wives and 43 kids, since the moms don’t earn an income and comeon how much can dad really make?

I had heard on a news program that they didn’t know that there was a law against plural marriage.. could they really not have known this?  I understand that they weren’t allow to have tv or internet, but still.. who knows..

You can bet Mr Jeffries and his deacons all knew about it.  They didn’t build their compounds without contact in the rest of the world. Now the women good chance they didn’t hence brain washing.
