Phoenix based Mesa Airlines subsidiary go! has two pilots under investigation.  These pilots are being questioned in they were both in fact sleeping on flight 1002 from Honolulu to Hilo on February 13th.

This was a 9:25 am flight in normally take 40 minutes between the two airports.  It was reported that this particular day took closer to an hour and air traffic controllers tried to contact the pilots for 25 minutes and got no response.

Sources say the pilots went off track 15 miles out to sea before turning around and finally landing.

Wow!

The plane landed safely.

Scary! And it was only an hour flight, and they fall asleep in 15 minutes?  Both of them?  What happened to people taking pride in their job?

Makes me wonder if there were more fundamental underlying problems....

Here’s an update:

Two go! pilots have been suspended while the Federal Aviation Administration investigates reports that they may have fallen asleep.  There names were not released.  I’ll keep following this story.

It’s confirmed.  Federal investigators confirmed today that these two pilots “fell asleep when they were flying to Honolulu to Hilo in February and overshot the runway by 15 miles.” No sh**!

Here’s an update to the story, both pilots now admit that they were sleeping during the flight.  The report says that they were under stress.  One of the reasons they were under stress is that the flight attendant was late and that they had to make up time.

I always thought it was the pilots that gave flight attendants stress!

Since when does stress put you to sleep?  Stress usually makes it impossible for me to sleep.  Last time I saw finger pointing it was between 2 nine year olds.
